A new member of Oversight Commission (OC) and a mature students officer were elected at the fourth Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) council tonight.
Rachel Merriman was elected and will address issues faced by mature students in Trinity. She came to the college under the Trinity Access Programme (TAP). Aratrika Ahuja and Catherine Ryan also ran for the role.
The previous mature students officer was Carly Bailey, a Law and Political Science student who has served as a student parent officer and was deputy chair of TCDSU’s lobby group last year. She had run unopposed.
The new OC member is Eoin Butler, who ran unopposed.
Alongside the education officer, the OC is tasked with compiling all the policy from mandates and referenda and checking whether the policy has been followed by all the officers. There are three members of the commission, who attend SU meetings and liaise with the the sabbatical officers when necessary.
