A man was removed today from an English lecture in the Arts building by Dublin Fire Brigade.
The unidentified man, who was wearing a bandage over one eye, stood at the side of lecture theatre as the lecture began. The man was verbally unresponsive when lecturer Dr. Jane Suzanne Carroll asked if he was alright.
He subsequently took a seat beside a student in the third row and closed his eyes. “They don’t give you training for this,” said Dr. Carroll when the class realised the man had fallen asleep.
College security were alerted to the situation. Three security staff members attempted to wake the man, who was unresponsive.
Five members of Dublin fire brigade entered the theatre 35 minutes into the lecture. They conducted a brief examination of the man. The man did not verbally respond but appeared to move his hands. Four members of the fire brigade carried him from the lecture theatre.
It is unclear whether the man was asleep or unconscious.
The incident occurred in room 2037 in the Arts Block at 3pm.
