SU Presidential candidate Laura Beston fined by Electoral Commission

Beston received a minor strike by the EC today

Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) Presidential candidate Laura Beston has received a minor strike from the Electoral Commission (EC), the body that oversees SU elections.

As a result, Beston will be unable to launch her Facebook campaign page until two hours after the other candidates in the race. It is unclear what the minor strike is in response to, as the EC does not provide this information.

Candidates in this year’s elections for SU sabbatical officer positions were announced Friday evening, with six women and four men contesting the six positions. Three races are uncontested.

Beston spoke to Trinity News explaining the strike, and said that “there was just a minor misunderstanding. Following this we’re taking the EC’s advice into account and taking necessary precautions moving forward to ensure it doesn’t happen again”.
