FLAC wins Best Overall Society at this year’s CSC ball

Trinity’s Free Legal Aid Society (FLAC) has been awarded the Best Overall Society prize at this year’s Central Societies Committee (CSC) Ball. Trinity Environmental Society won the Society’s Choice award, an award selected by society members attending the event. The ball was held in Clontarf Castle this evening.

FLAC was also named as the Best Small Society this year, beating the Christian Union, DU Meditation, and the Trinity Arts Festival. Trinity Space Society were awarded the honour last year.

DU Players won the award for the Best Large Society of the Year. They overcame An Cumann Gaelach, Trinity Student Managed Fund (SMF), and Trinity Vincent De Paul (VDP) to claim the prize. Last year, the award was won by VDP.  

The event also saw the Voluntary Tuition Programme (VTP) win the Most Improved Society award. Trinity Engineering Society and Trinity Mature Student Society were also nominated for the prize. Last year, the award was given to the DU Meditation society.

Trinity Musical Theatre (TMT) was awarded the Best Medium Society this evening, an award granted to Trinity Literary Society last year. TMT was recognised ahead of DU Dance Society, the Trinity Environmental Society, and the Trinity Photographic Society.

Trinity’s Vegan Society was awarded Best New Society, ahead of the Trinity Workers Party.

The University Philosophical Society (Phil) jointly received the award for Best Event this evening, for their debate “This House Believes Society is Failing People with Disabilities”, alongside Trinity VDP’s Annual Panto.

The Best Collaborative Event was awarded to the Multicultural Showcase, ran by Trinity’s Music Society, Tradsoc, TCD Arabesque, Trinity Russian Society, TCD French Society, DU Hispanic Society, DU Germanic Society, Trinity Indian Society, and Trinity Chinese Society.

The Best Fourth Week Event award was presented to DU Meditation for their “Mindfulness Day”, while Christian Union was awarded for their best Multi-Day Event entitled “What If?”. DU Photography Association were awarded for Best Society Publication with their  Christmas Exhibition 2018. The Best Poster award was won by Trinity Arts Festival for their poster entitled “The World was Purple Shadow”.

There were also two individual awards handed out on the night, with Sam Hardiman of DU Music, receiving the Best Individual award, and Todd Pender of the Literary Society winning the Best Fresher award.
