Students were alerted this afternoon by Secretary to the College John Coman that Mr Justice George Birmingham has been appointed the new Judicial Visitor to Trinity.
This change came into effect yesterday, November 12.
Coman outlined in the email that the government-appointed Judicial Visitor is to “hear internal appeals against decisions of the Board and other bodies in College, interpret the College Statutes and approve amendments to the College Statutes.”
Mr Justice Birmingham will perform this responsibility alongside Chancellor Dr Mary McAleese.
Birmingham is an ex officio member of the Supreme Court as President of the Court of Appeal after serving as Judge of the High Court between 2007 and 2014.
Birmingham’s appointment to the position of Judicial Visitor follows the resignation of Dr Justice Maureen Harding-Clark, which came into effect on November 11.
