Treoir chun maireachtáil san fhómhar – Romanticising Fall

Treoir do mhic léinn chun gormacha séasúracha a sheachaint.

An boladh caife agus cainéal, braonta báistí ag preabadh i gcoinne an tsíleáil fuinneoige, ag tlú suas i do leaba compordach te ag léamh leabhar nó ag breathnú ar Netflix. Is iad seo buntáistí an fhómhair áfach, ag an am seo den bhliain mothaítear éadóchas uilíoch ar a dtugtar dúlagar séasúrach. Táimid ar ais ar an ollscoil; tá spriocdhátaí sannadh ag teacht, tá an ghrian imithe, is cosúil go bhfuil na hoícheanta gan teorainn agus na laethanta maol.  Go ginearálta, tá níos lú ama le taisteal agus chun na rudaí is breá linn a dhéanamh in áit an tsaoirse á thairiscint dúinn faoi mhíonna an tsamhraidh. Clúdóidh an treoir seo cad a chaithfidh a bheith agat agus a dhéanamh ní hamháin maireachtáil ach a rathú an fómhar seo.

Rudaí riachtanacha:

Cupán caife ath-inúsáidte le haghaidh deochanna te.

Conas a spreagann duine é féin éirí as an leaba nuair a bhíonn an spéir fós dubh? Éasca, caife. Déan cupán sa bhaile sula ritheann tú don bhus.  Nó bualadh le cara agus agus téigh go dtí siopa caife roimh an 9 r.n brúidiúil. Beidh an fhoireann agus an timpeallacht buíoch agus cuireann go leor áiteanna lascaine ar fáil fiú nuair a dtugann tú do chupán féin leat.

Pitseámaí compordach.

Tá sé uafásach staidéar a dhéanamh i jeans.  Déan cinnte go mbeidh do pitseámaí réidh le haghaidh nuair a thagann tú abhaile ón ollscoil.  Ná bí ró-chompordach, is gaiste é dul isteach sa leaba. Má dhéanann pyjamas mian leat a chodladh ansin mholfainn culaith reatha bhog ina ionad.

Coinnle.

(Molaim fánaile, cainéal agus spíosra pumpcín) Cad é níos mó cosúil le Pinterest ná coinnle?  Freisin folaigh sé boladh na n-éadaí salach agus mearbhia ó aréir.  Má dhéanann tú staidéar i do sheomra le cúpla a bheith agat ar do dheasc tabharfaidh sé ‘dark academia’ fuinneamh mór.

Geansaí ró-mhór.

Go fírinneach, má tá sé níos gránna, is é sin an ceann is fear.  Tá go leor siopaí seanré i gcathair Bhaile Átha Cliath.  Aimsigh an geansaí is teo agus is amhrasaí is feidir leat agus beidh sé seachtain sula mbíonn mothúcháin i gceist geallaim duit.

Cluasáin.

Tá péire ardchaighdeáin riachtanach anois níos mó ná riamh.  Tá an samhradh imithe le fada, níl féilte ceoil ann níos mó.  Le haghaidh borradh séireatoinin, téigh go dtí an leabharlann agus cuir do seinnliosta ar suíl.  Níl aon rud mar seisiún dian staidéir sa leabharlann nuair a bhíonn sé ag stealladh báistí taobh amuigh agus tá do luaschártaí ag carnadh suas a bheith ar an airde chéanna le do chaife venti.

Anois tá do chuid bunriachtanacha fómhar go léir agat mar sin tá sé in am spiorad fhómhair a ghlacadh agus troid i gcoinne gormacha an gheimhridh, anseo é an chaoi.

A dhéanamh:

Seinnliosta an fhómhair a chruthú.

Anois caithimid formhór ár laethanta ag taisteal agus ag staidéar, mar sin is féidir leis an saol mothú dubhach agus athchleachtach. B’fhéidir go mbraitheann tú nach bhfuil tú beo i ndáiríre mar go bhfuil tú ag déanamh na rudaí céanna arís agus arís. Má tá tú ar an mbus nó sa leabharlann faigh do chluasáin seinnliosta an fhómhair a chur ar suíl agus mothaeoidh tú gur tusa an príomhcharachtar i do shaol.

Stáisiún staidéir tarraingteach a dhéanamh sa bhaile.

Eagraigh do chuid ábhar chun é a dhéanamh chomh héasca chun tosú ag staidéar is féidir.  Ag deireadh an lae, tús maith sin leath na hoibre. Ní féidir liom a rá leat cé chomh tábhachtach atá sé spás compordach agus eagraithe a bheith agat le linn na míonna níos dorcha. Ná fág éadaí salach i ngach áit, folamh do bhosca bruscair.  Más mian leat a bheith mhaisiúil fháil lampa salann agus pluideanna. Beidh tú ag caitheamh do chuid ama ar fad san fhómhar idir do champas ollscoile agus do sheomra leapa. Déan spás oiriúnach duit agus faire do chodladh agus giúmar iad a fheabhsú.

Téigh ag siúl.

Is féidir leat dul i d’aonar nó le cara, ach téigh.  Tá sé ríthábhachtach dul lasmuigh ní thagann an ghrian amach ach ar feadh cúpla uair an chloig anois.  Tá na laethanta gairid leas a bhaint astu.

Sórtáil do feisteas

Tuigim go bhfuil sé deacair slán a fhágáil leo ach cuir do chuid éadaí samhraidh áit éigin eile do anois agus bronn rudaí nach gcaitheann tú a thuilleadh.  Déanann an íobairt bheag ag fáil réidh ar maidin i bhfad níos éasca duit. Ní bheidh do chulaith fómhair i bhfolach I meascán briste gearr agus léinte nach bhfuil caite agat le cúig bliana.

Cuireadh a thabhairt do chairde le haghaidh oícheanta scannán nó seisiúin staidéir.

Cibé rud a dhéanann tú bheith sóisialta agus cuimhnigh gur dócha go mothaíonn do chairde mar an gcéanna leatsa ag an am seo den bhliain agus beidh siad thar a bheith sásta leis an gcuireadh. Ordaigh píotsa, cuir scannán Tim Burton ar suíl agus glacadh le spiorad na Samhna!

Déan athrú mór.

Athraigh do chuid gruaige, bain triail as stíl nua, bheith i do bhall de chlub éigin, téigh ar coinne, faigh caitheamh aimsire nua.  Cé go bhfuil gnáthamh tábhachtach ach nuair a chomhlachú muid an fhómhair agus an gheimhridh le maidineacha reoite agus sceideal laethúil leamh amháin is dóichí go mbeidh tionchar ag dúlagar séasúrach orainn. Athraigh do ghnáthamh laethúil, déan rud éigin nua gach seachtain, mór nó beag dean cibé rud a bhfuil an fuinneamh agat.

Cibé go bhfuil tú i do fanaiceach an fhómhair cosúil liomsa nó más fuath leat an séasúr táimid go léir so-ghabhálach i leith dúlagar séasúrach leis an meascán de brú acadúil, easpa solas na gréine agus an t-uaigneas gan mórán ama chun sóisialú. Rómánsú an fómhar seo chun an leas is mó a bhaint as é. Lorg sonas sna rudaí beaga; An chaoi a bhfuil na duilleoga bríomhar dearg agus oráiste ag cnagarnach faoi do chosa, an chéad sip den caife gaile, ag teacht abhaile tar éis lá fada, cith te a ghlacadh ansin ag tlú suas sa leaba. Is deis é an fhómhar chun moilliú a dhéanamh tar éis an tsamhraidh agus gnáthamh a aimsiú a oibríonn duit. Bain sult as gach nóiméad, gach maidin, agus gach braon caife boladh leis cainéal.

As Bearla/In English

The smell of coffee and cinnamon, the drum of rain drops against the windowsill, curling up in a warm familiar bed and losing yourself in a book or to Netflix.  These are the joys of Autumn however, this time of year a universal gloominess is felt by students, otherwise known as seasonal depression.  We are back to college; assignment deadlines loom, the sun has disappeared and so the nights seem endless and the days dull.  Generally, there is less time to travel and do what we love as opposed to the freedom offered to us by the summer months.  This guide will cover the must haves to the must dos in order to not only survive, but to thrive this fall!

Essential items:

Reusable coffee cup for hot drinks

How does one motivate themselves to get out of bed when it’s pitch black?  Easy! get a coffee.  Brew a cup at home to fuel your run for the bus or meet a friend and hit up a coffee shop before that brutal 9am class.  The staff and environment will be grateful if you use a reusable cup, and many places even offer a discount for bringing your own cup.

Cosy pyjamas

Studying in jeans is not it. Get comfortable and have your pyjamas out and ready to go when you’re done with your day in college.  Don’t get too comfortable though, getting into bed is a trap.  If pyjamas give you the urge to nap, I will then advise investing in a new soft tracksuit.

Candles

I recommend cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and vanilla. What is more Pinterest than candles?  It will also mask the scent of unwashed laundry and last night’s takeaway.  If you study in your room having a few lit on your desk will give off major dark academia energy.

An oversized jumper

Honestly the uglier the better, there are numerous vintage stores in Dublin city, find the warmest most questionable looking jumper you can, and I give it a week before you’re emotionally attached.

Earphones

A good quality pair are essential now more than ever.  Summer is long gone, no more music festivals.  For a serotonin boost get yourself to the library and stick some tunes on.  Nothing hits like an intense study session in the library when it’s pouring outside, and your flashcards are piling up to be the same height as your venti coffee.

Supplies for an indoor activity (Baking, reading, gaming)

Let’s face it you will experience burnout and there will be days where you have nothing on, but your social battery is completely drained.  Days like these are when low moods and feelings of dread and despair creep in.  Low effort activities are the perfect way to combat these emotions, connect with your inner child.

So now you have all of your fall essentials it’s time to truly get into the autumnal spirit and fight the winter blues and here is how you can do just that.

To do:

Make a fall playlist

Now that we are spending the majority of our days travelling and studying, life can feel depressing and repetitive, you may feel like you’re not truly living but rather just going through the motions of life. Whether you’re on the bus or in the library grab your earphones and stick on your autumn tunes to feel like the main character in your life again.

Make an attractive study station at home

Have your materials organised, make it as easy as possible to start studying.  After all, getting started is half the work. I can’t stress enough how important it is during the darker months to have a comfortable and organised space.  Don’t let the washing build up, empty your bin, if you really want to get fancy invest in a salt lamp and some blankets.  In autumn as a student, you will be living between the college campus and your room.  Make your space suit you and watch your sleep quality and daily mood improve.

Go for walks

You can go alone or with a friend, just go.  Getting outside is vital, sunlight hours are limited and the days brief, get the most out of them.

Clear out your wardrobe

I know it’s difficult to admit to yourself that the summer has officially ended but it’s time to put away your summer clothes for now and donate things you don’t wear anymore.  This small sacrifice makes getting ready in the mornings so much easier as you won’t be digging through shorts or tops that you haven’t worn in five years to find an autumn outfit.

Invite friends over for movie nights or study sessions

Whatever you do, remain social and remember your mates are probably feeling down at this time of year too and will be delighted with an invite. Order pizza, stick a Tim Burton film on and get in the Halloween spirit!

Make a big change

Change your hair, experiment with fashion, join a club, go on a date, pick up a hobby.  Routine is important, sure, but when autumn and winter merge into a section of the year associated solely with assessments, freezing mornings and a dull daily schedule, we become unknowingly submissive to the pull of seasonal depression.  Break the cycle of your daily routine and do something new every week, big or small whatever you have the energy for.

Whether you are an autumn fanatic such as myself or despise the season we are all susceptible to seasonal blues given the combination of academic pressure, a lack of sunlight, and loneliness with little time to socialise. To make the most of this fall romanticise it.  Find the joys in the little things, how the vibrant leaves crunch under your feet, that first sip of steaming coffee, coming home after a long day taking a hot shower and then curling up in bed.  Fall is an opportunity to slow down after the summer and get into a routine that works for you. Enjoy every moment, every morning and every cinnamon scented sip.
