Memorial service to be held for students who have passed away since 2020

The interfaith service will be held in the College Chapel on 31 March

A memorial service in memory of Trinity students who have passed away since 2020 will be held on Friday 31 March. The service  will take place at 5pm in the College Chapel.

During the service, family and friends will be invited to light a candle in the front of the chapel in honour of their loved ones. Readings will be delivered by students, staff, and members of the Chaplaincy. The College Choir will also  perform throughout the service.

The service will incorporate multiple faiths as well as the Humanist tradition

Speaking to Trinity News, Senior Tutor, Dr Stephen Smith, said he worked closely with Trish Murphy, director of student counselling services, and Dr Catherine McCabe, Dean of Students, to organise the memorial.

He also told Trinity News that the idea to hold the act of remembrance came after Murphy attended a conference in the UK which spoke about student death and how memorials such as this can allow college communities to heal the following bereavement of fellow students.

Smith added that he hopes the memorial will become an annual event.

Provost Linda Doyle will attend the memorial, along with fellow College Officers. Staff and students are also invited to attend.
