Aifric Ni Chriodain and Jemma O’Leary are the two candidates contesting the position of communications and marketing officer.
Ni Chriodain, a final-year French and film studies student, has worked in various marketing positions since coming to Trinity and is active on the Central Societies Committee Executive (CSC), as well as the committee for the Trinity Arts Festival (TAF). She also spent two years on the council of the University Philosophical Society, first as pro-librarian and later as librarian (public relations officer).
Among Ni Chriodain’s priorities, if elected, would be securing greater business sponsorship for the SU, an overhaul of the SU’s website and jobs list, the provision of daily social media updates on SU activities and the improvement of their Deal of the Week offer for students based both on and off of the main campus. Some of her other plans include working with the SU Café to boost sales in order to be able to increase the range of food and drink offered there and making SU financial reports available to students on a more regular basis for greater transparency within the Union.
O’Leary is a third-year student of French and history. Currently serving as the editor of DU History’s magazine, The Historian, this yea,r she also holds responsibility for securing sponsorship for the society. In addition to this, she is the third-year representative for Trinity’s Cancer Society.
If elected, she intends to increase SU communication and engagement with students located outside of the main campus as well as with students who do not attend meetings of the SU Council. She also hopes to oversee a revamp of the SU website, to place greater emphasis upon openness, accountability and transparency within the Union, and to revitalise the Deal of the Week meal scheme, providing students with regular information on affordable places to eat near campus.
