Jan O’Sullivan is the new Minister for Education, it has been confirmed.
The outgoing Minister of State, Department of Environment, Community and Local Government was promoted in today’s cabinet reshuffle following Ruairí Quinn’s resignation last week.
Minister O’Sullivan is a qualified Montessori teacher and held the Labour Party’s education brief during its time in opposition.
Other ministerial appointments confirmed so far include Leo Varadker as Minister for Health; Alex White as Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources; Paschal Donohue as Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport; Alan Kelly, the new deputy Labour leader, as Minister for the Environment and Local Government; Heather Humphreys as Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht; Charlie Flanagan as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade; and James O’Reilly as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs. Ged Nash is to fill the new Super Junior post of Minister for Business and Employment.
Remaining in their current ministerial positions are Michael Noonan (Finance), Brendan Howlin (Public Expenditure and Reform), Joan Burton (Social Protection), Richard Bruton (Jobs), Simon Coveney (Agriculture and Defence), and Frances Fitzgerald (Justice).
