Director Lynn Scarff has been appointed as the Director of the National Museum of Ireland following over a decade at the Science Gallery.

Trinity Science Gallery Director Lynn Scarff has been appointed as the new Director of the National Museum of Ireland. She will take up this position in May 2018.

Congratulating Scarff on her new role, Vice Provost of College, Chris Morash said: Lynn has been an important part of that success story where she has made a significant contribution, both as a founding member, and in  leading it over the past four years. We wish her every success in her exciting new role at the National Museum.”

Scarff has a background in environmental and not for profit work, and has developed programmes, tv series, books and radio programmes in these areas. She began her role in the Science Gallery as the Education and Outreach Manager and was a founding member of the organisation.

She has been Director of the Science Gallery since her appointment in 2014, succeeding Michael John Gorman. During this time she lead a new strategic plan and staff restructuring, secured multiple research grants and grew the research and practices of the organisation.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Science Gallery. Located on Pearse Street, the Gallery saw over 400,000 visitors in 2016 with nearly 3 million since its launch in 2007. The Gallery has displayed close to 40 unique exhibitions since its opening.

Addressing her time at the Science Gallery, Scarff commented: “The Science Gallery team and board alongside my colleagues in Trinity College Dublin and our Science Circle and funding partners have made the experience captivating and exciting in equal measure. Their hard work and commitment is unquestionably the source of Science Gallery’s continued success.”
