SU Presidential candidate sanctioned by Electoral Commission

The breach of Schedule 3 was committed by a former member of Molloy’s campaign team

Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) Presidential candidate Paul Molloy has been sanctioned by the Electoral Commission (EC) for breaching a rule of Schedule 3. The breach was committed by a former member of Molloy’s campaign team.

The issue in question was not revealed by the EC but was brought to the attention of the EC by the candidate himself, along with his campaign manager, Annabel O’Rourke. No strikes were issued for the breach but the penalty is the confiscation of five campaign t-shirts and 500 manifestos on the first day of campaigning.

Schedule 3 of TCDSU’s Constitution outlines election regulations and dates. Breaches of EC rules usually result in a strike against a candidate, with the candidate removed from the ballot after their third rule break.

Molloy did not respond to a request for comment at the time of publication.
