BlackBoard access to be restored for all students by 4pm following error

Many Junior Freshers are still unable to view their modules

Many Trinity students, particularly Junior Freshers, are still unable to access their BlackBoard Learn (BlackBoard) accounts following an error in the website’s system yesterday evening despite access being regained by some.

Trinity students were unable to access their BlackBoard accounts from around 5pm yesterday, despite the website having operated as normal earlier in the day. According to IT services, this was a “system-wide problem and not specific to individual students”.  Access was not available through either the BlackBoard website or mobile app.

Upon trying to log in to their account, students encountered a message which said: “No Learn Account is available for your external credentials.  You are accessing as a guest. Please contact your system administrator to reconcile your account.” This resulted in students being unable to view their modules or course content which had been uploaded to the website.

IT Services circulated an email to staff and students this morning detailing that access to the system had been “largely restored”. Students who were affected last night now report being able to access their accounts again.

However, Junior Freshers are largely still impacted by the error and unable to regain full access to their accounts. “A significant number of students, particularly Junior Fresh students are still affected and may not be able to log in or see the correct modules,” IT Services stated.

“Work is ongoing to restore access and module enrolments to all students,” the statement continued. IT Services expects access to be restored to all students by 4pm.

BlackBoard Learn is a virtual learning system which allows staff and student to communicate. It allows students to view their modules and course content while lecturers and teaching assistants (TAs) frequently upload powerpoints, reading lists, and other documents to the website for students to access.
