TG4 star launches Trinity Irish language festival

“They asked me did I speak Irish, and I said no, not really,” recounted Gaeilgeoir and star of TG4’s ‘Aifric’ Clíona Ní Chíosain at the launch of Éigse na Tríonóide – or a “celebration of Trinity” in English – on Monday

Éigse na Tríonóide serves as a platform to introduce people to Irish in the arts, and aims to cater to all abilities, from those who have no knowledge of the language with a taster course for beginners, to debates, film, and plays for the more seasoned speakers.

Ní Chíosain spoke about the way people take the Irish language for granted, hiding their knowledge of it, and disregarding its importance for our cultural heritage.; mentioning the proverb ‘níl an Ghaeilge caillte, ach tá sí ceilte’ – Irish isn’t lost, but it’s hidden.

An Cumann Gaelach provides a free bricfeasta Gaelach (Irish breakfast) every morning at 9am this week in Seomra na Gaeilge – behind the Buttery and has organised a free night out in Solas on Wexford Street in association with Trinity ENTS.

Friday will see the launch of An Scríobhneoir Óg – an evening of storytelling at 7.30pm on Friday in Peadar Kearney’s, Dame Street.
