The Magician and Wild Youth take to the stage at Freshers’ Ball 2017

Headline acts The Magician and Wild Youth, as well as a basement silent disco, please the crowd at TCDSU Ents second night of the week.

After the lavish halls of Cafe En Seine were transformed into a retro rave by TCDSU Ents on Monday, they really outdid themselves by throwing the biggest freshers ball in the country on Tuesday night in the Academy as part of their “F R E S H” series. This definitely was the largest and most visited party of the week, and already has been lauded as one of the most memorable nights of the year so far.

While the first two floors of the venue were prime for some house and techno boogieing by members of DUDJ earlier on, the basement was hosting a silent disco, a truly surreal sight to see when one would come downstairs and see hundreds of people dancing to literally nothing.

Dublin newcomers Wild Youth kicked things off in the green room with a unique live set, pleasing the crowd with their quirky band of indie rock. Many freshers were already drunkenly holding friends they’d met 2 hours before saying “I love you, man” when they finished their set with their biggest single “All or Nothing”.

Main headliner The Magician worked his magic later on in Floor One, delivering an eclectic set that incorporated old school disco, tech house and his own dance-pop hits. Highlights included Tchami’s “SIAW” and “Adieu”, as well as “Sunlight” and “Shy” by the man himself.  The most surprising action of the night, however, had to be when the Belgian DJ closed the night with XXXTentacion’s “Look At Me”, prompting many Fresher’s to initiate mosh pits all over the floor.
