The official Trinity Ents Twitter account was hacked this morning.  Disparaging tweets about Trinity Ball and its promoter, MCD, were posted to the account, which has over 2,200 followers, on the first day of ticket sales for this year’s Ball.

Both tweets were deleted promptly after they were posted. One adopted the tone of the official account by asking who followers wanted to see at Trinity Ball. “Who would you like to see at #tball15?! Personally someone decent. #ripoff,” it said. The second was of a similar nature, berating MCD’s role in the organisation of the Ball: “Fuck bitches, smoke weed, grab all yet TBall monieeeessss! #ripoff #MCDprofit.”

The hacking follows a series of complaints from students on the official Trinity Ball 2015 Facebook page after the announcement of this year’s line-up on student radio station Trinity FM. A post on the page, unfavourably comparing this year’s acts to those secured in 2013, gathered over 1,300 likes with many students taking to the comment section to criticise this year’s line-up.

When contacted about this morning’s hacking, Finn Murphy, SU Ents officer, described the breach as “malicious” and explained that someone somehow got the password for the account. “They posted some negative comments and I deleted them,” he said. “It’s rather frustrating when I’m trying to sell the Ball and someone does something targeted and malicious like that.”
