Trinity student named overall winner in Bank of Ireland FX trade off contest

The contest hopes to encourage third level students to become more involved with and improve their knowledge of Global Foreign Exchange markets

 

Marco Stango, a first year Engineering student, was announced as the overall winner of the Bank of Ireland FX trade off contest 2017.

The contest was established this year and was founded in the hope of encouraging third-level students  improve their knowledge of global foreign exchange markets. Bank of Ireland (BOI) in collaboration with Share Navigator, provided a market environment allowing the entrants to put their trading skills to the test.

The competition received three times the original number of spaces available for the competition, whilst four launch nights were held around the country at University College Dublin (UCD), Trinity College Dublin (TCD) , Dublin City University (DCU) and University College Cork (UCC).

For his win, Stango received a €1,000 cash prize, an iPad, mentoring workshops from the Bank of Ireland global markets’ senior leadership team and work experience at the largest dealing room in Ireland.

Kevin Twomey, CEO of  BOI global markets said: “This is the first year of our FX Trade Off competition and we have been overwhelmed with not only the volume of interest and entries, but also the positive feedback from participants and universities.”

Twomey spoke about the diverse range of entrants from around the country saying: “We are particularly pleased that the entrants represented a cross-section of courses including the arts, economics and engineering.”

“In Bank of Ireland Global Markets, we have a strong track record of retaining graduates, with over a quarter of our colleagues originating through the graduate programme. We look forward to expanding the competition reach in 2018.”

Tom Walsh and Matthew Collins, both UCD students, came in second and third respectively, each receiving mentoring, a cash prize and an iPad.
