From a guy who knows his wine, Maxwell Henderson offers us his Bubbly Party Pick’n’Mix
Champagne/champagne alternatives:
-
Tesco’s finest premier cru champagne: A truly excellent champagne and a complete an utter bargain at €30 for its quality. An absolute must given a special occasion, as its clean sweep at the 2005 international wine challenge proved.
-
Simonsig: South African sparkling wine, based on the classic chardonnay pinot noir, pinot meunier combination. The bruit 2006 is particularly good given its €15 price mark.
-
Berry’s Extra Dry cremant de Limoux: Non-champagne sparkling wines from France are often frowned upon; however, this hugely elegant Jean Louis Denois is fruity and ripe and an excellent example of what Languedoc can produce. And a snip at €18. (Better on its own than with food.)
