This evening in the GMB, the Phil will hold a debate on the motion This House Believes that Women Should Embrace the Word “Slut”.
Can’t make it along? Don’t worry: our Online Editor Naoise Dolan will be liveblogging it from this page. Check this space at 7.30pm for running commentary!
The guest lineup is looking promising. Speaking on proposition will be Sonya Barnett, co-founder of “SlutWalk”, and Natasha Devon, co-founder of Body Gossip. Meanwhile, Margaret E. Ward, founder of Women on Air, will oppose the motion.
Given that the GMB has often struggled to get enough women speaking, this event is notable for being the first all-female Phil or Hist debate in institutional memory. Among the student speakers will be Sally Rooney, who was Top Speaker at the 2013 European Universities Debating Championship.
Get excited!
