Christmas is a time of giving, partying and cheer- and if you’re a student, it’s the perfect opportunity to revel in the festivities like a child again. We want to give you the lowdown on the most exciting Christmas events happening in the lead up to the festive season.
Trinity Politics Society- World War I Christmas Football Match
Celebrating the famous ceasefire of 1914 when the soldiers left the trenches on Christmas Day and played a game of football with the enemy sides, this event brings a whole new angle to the humble five a side. Run as a mini tournament in Botany Bay and with Christmas songs, mulled wine and mince pies, this will be a great event for both players and spectators alike. Run in association with DU History, Europa, French Society and Geographical Society.
Where : Botany Bay (Behind the GMB)
When : 2pm, Wednesday 7th
Cost : Free to all members of any of these societies.
DU Players- The Players Nativity
We all have either very fond or extremely embarrassing memories of our school nativity play (I count being a Wise King in second class as my greatest role). So why not come down to the Players’ Theatre and relive the magic of childhood. After the nativity, there will be a screening of Love Actually, possibly the greatest Christmas film of all time. If you’ve never been to a Players’ event before then this is the perfect opportunity. With their design team transforming the theatre every Wednesday, this week should be no different. Expect lots of cozy Christmas cheer.
Where : Players Theatre
When : 8pm, Wednesday 7th
Cost : €2 (includes two free drinks)
DUPA- Christmas Exhibition; Freedom of Expression
Each year the photography society hold their Christmas Exhibition, whereby they exhibit students’ photography which surround a particular theme. This year- Freedom of Expression. Considering the major political movements that have unfolded within the past few months, this theme seems particularly apt. Apartments of House 38 will be converted into a space to show off the work. With wine, nibbles and photography, this is truly a festive event not to be missed!
Where : House 38, New Square
When : 6pm, Friday 9th

Trinity Singers- Gaudete; A Christmas Concert
What better way to really get in the festive spirit than Christmas Carols? Having recently returned from the International Choral Festival, Trinity Singers are gracing us with a fabulous festive show. With voices full of warmth you’ll be whisked away to a dreamlike Christmas. Set in the lovely surroundings of the Chapel, this annual celebration of Trinity’s vocal talent is an event not to be missed.

DU Film- A Very Throwback Christmas
Celebrate the most wonderful time of the century as DU film honour the 80s. With mulled wine, cheesy films and a whole lotta tinsel this event looks set to be the most Christmassy of all. Light the fire and relax as you’re brought back to the days when leg warmers were the most exciting thing you could get from Santa. This nostalgic night out celebrates the cinematic masterpieces of its time. Set in the amazing Adelphi venue- this could be the best event of them all!
