Neal Manning withdraws from UT by-election

UT candidate Neal Manning has withdrawn from the race, leaving two candidates left

Neal Manning has withdrawn his name from the by-election for editor of the University Times (UT).

Manning’s withdrawal leaves two candidates left to contest the race, Mairead Maguire and Ailbhe Noonan.

Speaking to Trinity News, Manning explained his withdrawal from the race: “I have different plans in 2023 so I just want to focus and finish my course so I can do them instead rather than taking a year to do Editor.”

The upcoming by-election follows a vote to reopen nominations (RON) in the Sabbatical election early in March. The sole candidate Mairead Maguire received 40.6% while RON received 59.4%.

Campaigning for the election will begin on April 4. Voting will take place from April 6 to 7, with campaigning continuing concurrently.

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that voting for the election opens on April 4. Trinity News apologises for the error.
