Harris temporarily appointed as Minister for Justice in Varadkar’s cabinet reshuffle

Harris will continue to serve as Minister for Further and Higher Education during the interim Minister for Justice role

Simon Harris has tonight been appointed as the interim Minister for Justice, in incoming Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s cabinet reshuffle.

Minister Harris, who currently serves as Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will continue to remain in this role, alongside uptaking the justice ministerial responsibilities.

Current Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee is currently on maternity leave and will resume the role when she returns. 

Other Cabinet changes include Minister Simon Coveney, who has been appointed Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. 

Minister Coveney has served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence since 2020.

Now Tánaiste, former Taoiseach Micheál Martin will serve as Minister for Foreign Affairs. 

Fianna Fáil’s Michael McGrath has been appointed to oversee the Department of Finance and the former Finance minister Paschal Donohoe will take over the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform.
