Trinity health researchers awarded a combined total of €4.75m in HRB funding

Researchers from Trinity won 11 of 29 total HRB awards

The Health Research Board (HRB) has awarded 11 Trinity researchers funding for their respective projects.

Professor Joanne Lysaght, Professor Aisling Dunne, Dr Lucy Norris, Professor Ursula Fearon, Dr Sharee Basdeo, Dr Mary Canavan, Professor Eleanor Molloy Professor Lorina Naci, Dr Colm Cunningham, Dr Emer Guinan, and Professor Rose Anne Kenny were awarded a combined total of €4.75m from the HRB.

Each project will be funded for a maximum of four years.

The funding comes as part of the HRB’s Investigator-Led Projects (ILP) scheme, which aims to support “highly innovative and internationally competitive” research addressing challenges in health and social care.

In total the HRB granted 29 awards under the scheme, 11 of which went to Trinity.

Dean of Health Sciences Professor Brian O’Connell welcomed the funding: “The research will build on strengths across health sciences in Trinity, from understanding disease, to better treatments and enhanced quality of life for patients.”

“There is no doubt that the work of these talented researchers will generate lasting insights for patients suffering a range of devastating diseases.”

HRB Chief Executive Dr Mairead O’Driscoll said the scheme highlights the board’s “commitment to supporting high-quality research”,

“We want to create new internationally relevant knowledge that will help to address major health challenges in society. And we want to make a positive impact on tomorrow’s health care”, she added.
