Irish star Paul Mescal paid a visit to College today ahead of this evening’s premiere of his latest film Gladiator II at the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield.
The Oscar nominated actor visited College’s Rose Garden before stopping off at the Old Library and Book of Kells.
Mescal, a 2017 acting graduate of the College-affiliated Lir Academy, was followed closely by a swarm of students.
The Lir took to Instagram today posting a video congratulating the school’s alumni ahead of the release of Gladiator II, saying: “We are so very proud of you Paul!”
A spokesperson for College told Trinity News that the actor was on campus “for an external filming engagement”.
Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiator II is a prequel to the 2000 blockbuster Gladiator which was nominated for 12 Oscars and saw Russell Crowe take home the Best Actor Award for his performance.
The actor’s presence on campus today came shortly after a Paul Mescal lookalike contest was held in Smithfield this afternoon. The winner, Jack Wall O’Reilly from Ennis in Co Clare, was awarded a novelty check made out for €20 or “three pints”.
The event was inspired by the recent Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest which took place in New York last week, taking the internet by storm.
Gladiator II opens in Irish cinemas on November 15.
