Met Eireann has issued a Status Red Wind warning for Dublin and all other counties from 6am to 12pm this Friday, in response to the impending Storm Éowyn.
The body has warned that the storm’s winds will “bring severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h”.
In line with the advice of the National Emergency Coordination Group (NECG), all primary and secondary schools, as well as third-level education institutions will close for the duration of the red warning.
College wrote in a student-wide email this morning that “the University will be close on Friday until at least 14.00”
“This means that all lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, Libraries, Sport Centre, student services and visitor attractions will remain closed until that time.”
They advised that “staff should work remotely where possible” and that students should “not attempt to travel during the Status Red warning”.
“The University will continue to monitor the Met Éireann weather warning and will provide further updates should circumstances change”, they concluded.
In a government-issued statement this afternoon, chair of the NECG, Keith Leonard, said Storm Éowyn would be “a dangerous and destructive weather event”
“The forecasted winds have the capacity to bring severe, damaging winds which will constitute a risk to life and property. During the Red Level wind warnings, the public are advised to shelter in place”, he said.
