Ents officer: “I would have preferred to have more input in the headliners”

In a statement to Trinity News, Ents officer Peadar Walsh commented on the ents officer’s involvement in the headliner selection process

Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) Ents Officer Peadar Walsh has expressed regret over the lack of input it was possible for him to have on the Trinity Ball (T-Ball) lineup.

In a statement to Trinity News, Walsh said that before he assumed the role last July, he “was under the impression that the Ents officer had greater autonomy over the ball as a whole”.

He said: “Now, seven months in, I can say that this perception of the entertainments officer is incorrect. My role in the running of the Ball has been administrative work, ensuring accessibility and effective security on the night, and the overall promotion and marketing of the ball.”

Walsh in particular highlighted his realisation that the ents officer has little executive function in choosing Trinity Ball headliners.

“Looking back, I would have preferred to have more input in the headliners and the overall line-up structure, and I am currently working on formalising an agreement that will enable my successor to have a legitimate, significant input into the Ball next year.”

“Trinity Ball needs reform.”

He added: “In the current financial climate, with costs of insurance and security rising year on year, this makes it incredibly difficult to achieve.”

Walsh finished by saying, “Sure look, Trinity Ball will be a special night for all students and staff involved, and I am looking forward to enjoying a lineup filled with local Irish talent. I want to thank the massive work that has gone into the event from the Trinity Ball Committee, and throughout the year from my Ents Committee.”

This comes after the announcement of Trinity Ball 2025’s headliners, with Irish singer Jazzy and the Australian group Confidence Man billed as the two main acts.
