One dead after stabbing in Dublin city centre

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on South Anne Street

One man is dead after a stabbing occurred in the early hours of this morning on South Anne Street.

Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 3am, where there was a man in his 30s, unresponsive and seriously injured.

The victim was taken to St James’ Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Another man was injured in the incident, suffering from non-fatal knife wounds.

He is currently hospitalised and being treated.

Gardaí are hoping to use an account from the surviving victim to gain clarity on the details of the crime.

It is believed that the incident occurred following an argument between two groups of people.

The areas around the scene have been cordoned off for investigation, including sections of South Anne Street, Duke Lane, and Dawson Street.

Passersby have noted that there are blood stains visible on the street, with many businesses unable to open for the day.

Sean Phillips of Kehoes Pub told RTÉ news that: “You just see the blood on the street.”

In a post on X, Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan commented: “An Garda Síochána are keeping me updated on the shocking incident which occurred early this morning on Dawson Street. Dubliners deserve to feel safe in our city. That’s a priority.”

Investigations are ongoing, with no arrests made at this time.

Gardaí are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Pearse Street Garda Station.
