Two candidates have announced that they are dropping out of the two most highly contested Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) sabbatical elections.
Kate Mason has dropped out of the race for entertainments (Ents) officer. This race is the most contested, with a total of six candidates running before Mason’s departure.
Last year’s entertainments officer race was uncontested, with current TCDSU Ents Officer Peadar Walsh as the only candidate.
With a total of five candidates remaining, these include Yuv Garg, Finn Hallwood, Orla Norton, John O’Hara and Helen Tyrell.
Garg is a senior sophister global business student from New Delhi, India. He is the current welfare and inclusivity officer for Trinity Ents.
Hallwood is a junior sophister mechanical and manufacturing engineering student from London, England.
Norton is a senior sophister studying psychology. She was events manager for Trinity French Society from 2022 to 2024.
O’Hara is a junior sophister film student, and is the current publication relations officer of Trinity Ents.
Tyrell is a senior sophister business and French student. She currently serves as Vice-President of Fundraising at Trinity St. Vincent de Paul.
Another candidate, who has asked to remain nameless, has dropped out of the race for welfare and equality officer. Now with four remaining candidates in the race, it continues to be a highly contested election.
Last year’s welfare and equality officer race saw three candidates, meaning this year’s number of candidates continues to surpass last year’s even with this departure.
There are now a total of 20 candidates running for TCDSU sabbatical positions.
