Three sabbatical officers of Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) received an on-stage shoutout from American singer Gracie Abrams during her widely-attended Dublin concert on Monday.
TCDSU President Jenny Maguire, Education Officer Eoghan Gilroy, and Communications and Marketing Officer Beth Strahan all met the singer on Sunday afternoon at Loose Cannon wine bar on Drury Street.
The meeting was allegedly not planned as the singer did not previously know the trio, although they have since developed a personable rapport.
“I met the kindest person ever named Eoghan who I adore”, Abrams said to the crowd, a statement immediately followed by screaming to which she waved and said: “Hi! You’re here!”.
“We met at Loose Canon and you just made our night”, she said, before asking the crowd to wish Gilroy a happy birthday.
It was not Gilroy’s birthday on Monday. He was born on March 8, 2001, and celebrated his birthday on Saturday, before he and Abrams had ever met.
“We love you. We love all of you so much”, she added in further reference to Maguire and Strahan, who were also in the crowd and at Loose Canon.
In a statement to Trinity News, Gilroy wrote that “lives were changed this weekend, and we [him, Maguire, and Strahan] were rewarded for being active on a Sunday”.
“Bumped into Gracie and her team in Loose Cannon, cried in front of her, she then gave us guest list tickets”, he detailed.
“The first mention we did not hear it because we were a little overexcitable… understandably!”, he clarified.
“Best birthday ever, if I do nothing else in life I’d be okay with that”, he foreshadowed.
“She’s the sweetest person ever, I’d die/kill for her”, he admitted.
On Tuesday morning TCDSU President Jenny Maguire posted a video to her personal instagram story of the Education Officer approaching a concert steward saying “Hi, how are you? We’re on guest list for Gracie. Eoghan Gilroy is the name.”
Abrams is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. The daughter of Star Wars director JJ Abrams, she has since made a name for herself in the music industry.
Her second studio album, The Secret of Us, debuted at number two on US Billboard 200 list, and has enjoyed sustained popularity amongst the young Dubliners.
