Senior sophister history and political science student Aoibhínn Clancy has been elected and will serve as the editor of Trinity News in its 72nd volume throughout the 2025/26 academic year.
Currently serving as social media manager for Trinity News, Clancy previously served as deputy news editor in 2023/4.
Clancy was elected on the first count, receiving 59.2% of votes, defeating Kay Williams and Faye Madden with 20.4% each. The results were announced this evening at Trinity News’ AGM following an online vote ting during the day.
Clancy plans to continue to build on Trinity News’ visual media, which she grew this year with content such as Hot Heat Seat and This Week in TN Life.
Clancy credited her positive experience with the paper since the start of her involvement in her second year as her motivation for running.
She commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been elected for the 72nd issue of TN. It was a huge shock! I would like to thank everyone who trusted me enough with their vote, I hope I’m able to do you all proud. TN has shaped my college experience in such positive way and I hope I can foster a similar experience for others. Big things coming!!!”
Clancy is a current final year History and Political Science student.
Outgoing Editor-in-Chief David Wolfe congratulated Clancy on her election, saying “Trinity News has a bright future ahead of it under her leadership”.
“As a former social media manager myself, I hugely admire the work Aoibhínn has done this year to grow the paper, and I have no doubt that she will continue to show the same dedication and commitment.”
Wolfe continued: “I also want to commend Kay and Faye on their campaigns, both of whom I’ve had the privilege of working closely with during my time in Trinity News.”
“I can’t wait to see what they both do next, and look forward to everything they will achieve.”
Clancy will begin her term in May.
