DU Boxing’s colours charity fight packs a punch

Trinity’s showdown with UCD raises over €1,000 for Medical Aid for Palestine while marking a milestone for competitive boxing.

Among the many sporting events at Trinity this semester, few have carried as much significance or supported such a worthy cause as DU Boxing’s Annual Colours Charity Fight against UCD Boxing Club. Held in the Exam Hall, which provided a beautiful and historic backdrop, the event successfully raised over €1,000 for Medical Aid for Palestine, a remarkable achievement well worth showcasing and celebrating.

With more than 200 attendees, funds were generated through ticket sales and raffle prizes, showcasing the strong sense of community and support for the cause. This year’s event also marked an important milestone for the Trinity boxing club: for the first time in years, the fights counted as official bouts rather than exhibitions. This shift represents a welcome return to the competitive side of the sport and underscores the club’s growing ambition and outreach efforts.

In the ring, UCD emerged victorious overall, securing eight wins to Trinity’s four. However, the night was about more than just competition, it was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Trinity boxing team and their captains, Ravi Seth and Tereza Karbanova. Their leadership and commitment to organising such a successful event deserve immense recognition.

The Colours Fight was the highlight of what has been a landmark year for DU Boxing. In November, the club hosted a major tournament featuring teams from British and Irish universities, and in March, Trinity fighters traveled to the University of Bristol to compete. This series of events reflects the club’s continued growth and its ability to foster both athletic excellence and social impact.
