The new Trinity Business School restaurant is to be named Forum following a vote by staff and students on the name last month.
Chief Operating Officer Geraldine Ruane stated: “This name suggests more than just a space or restaurant facility but an area in which ideas are discussed, networking takes place and people are intellectually stimulated.”
Staff and students were invited to participate in an online survey to choose the new name, with the option to vote between four options or suggest a new one. Participants were encouraged to suggest names “reflecting on the building and its purpose as a business school”.
Ruane outlined that her office was “inundated” with name suggestions, but that Forum received the highest number of votes.
Sodexo Ireland, which currently caters for the Perch café in the Arts Building, won the contract to run Forum upon its opening. Speaking to Trinity News, Dean of the Trinity Business School Professor Andrew Burke outlined that Forum is expected to be a “very different style” to the Perch.
The new Business School is over 11,300 metres squared and consists of eight storeys. The building, located on Pearse Street, includes a 600-seat auditorium, 140-seat lecture hall, and several smaller lecture theatres.
In line with College’s sustainability policy, the building contains natural ventilation, solar panels, and two green walls on the outside.
Speaking at an event in September, Provost Patrick Prendergast announced that Trinity has invested €80m in the project, with €20m sourced from philanthropic donations and €60m coming from investments and loans.
The new Trinity Business School building is set to open in March 2019.
