David Wolfe elected editor of Trinity News

The current Social Media and Managing Editor was selected in the first contested election since 2018

David Wolfe has been elected Editor of Trinity News in the paper’s first contested election since 2018. 

Wolfe, who is the paper’s current Social Media and Managing Editor will serve as Editor of the 71st volume of Trinity News during the 2024/2025 academic year. 

He defeated current Deputy Editor Ellen Kenny by 28 votes to 25.

The result was announced at this evening’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) following a vote conducted by online ballot of the paper’s editorial staff.

Wolfe, who is a final year History and Political Science student, has previously served as News Editor of Trinity News and as Editor-in-Chief of Misc. Magazine. He also currently serves as the Secretary of Trinity Publications. 

Among Wolfe’s plans for next year is the expansion of Trinity News’ multimedia coverage through the creation of a Trinity News podcast. He also plans to further develop the paper’s Gaeilge section. 

Wolfe will begin his term as editor in May. 

Speaking following his election, Wolfe said: “I’m unbelievably thrilled to have been elected editor of Trinity News.”

“This paper has meant so much to me throughout my time in Trinity and I’m really excited to lead it into next year.” 

Wolfe paid tribute to  outgoing editor Kate Henshaw for “leaving TN in such a strong position”. He also thanked fellow executive staff members Kenny and Assistant Editor Ella Sloane, who he called “extraordinary” as well as “every member of staff who has contributed their time and energy to the paper this year”. 

“I have no doubt that next year will be one of the best years TN has ever seen,” he added. 

Henshaw congratulated Wolfe on his election saying: “I am so excited to see what TN does next year under David.”

“It was a very competitive election with two fantastic candidates. Commiserations to Ellen who has done such a fantastic job this year too.” 

“I am so proud of everything TN has done this year and long may its success continue.”
