The Irish Feminist Network and Dublin University’s Gender Equality Society are holding a debate to discuss whether Trinity should hold its first Slut Walk.
The debate will take place at 7.00pm on 2 February at Cassidy’s Hotel in Upper O’Connell Street. Speaking at the event is William O’Brien, Equality Officer at NUIG who supports the movement. Emma Regan, IFC Coordinator and opponent to the proposed SlutWalk, will also address the debate.
Started in Toronto in 2011, the Slut Walk is a peaceful protest which aims to send the message that no one deserves to be subjected to sexual assault. It spawned across the world after comments by a Canadian policeman that women should avoid “dressing like sluts” in order to reduce the likelihood of being raped. SlutWalks have already been organised in UCD and NUI Galway.
Anyone interested in speaking at the event can contact the IFN at [email protected], visit the Facebook page.
